Hot Italian Hoagie

Whenever my Husband orders a sandwich from a deli, it's main components usually are Italian inspired.  He always seems to gravitate towards pepperoni, and salami.  Maybe it's a "man thing?"  Today's lunch is another meal inspired by my Husband.  Once again I asked him what he wanted for lunch(these Fajita Turkey Melts were his idea last time) and he said "I'm thinking a sandwich, with Italian flavors, and an Italian dressing-not a red sauce, but a white sauce, or oil and vinegar.  I want red onion, and peperoncinis on it."  Wow huh?  I guess it was one of those days where he knew exactly what he wanted.  Those days are fun because we go back and forth with ideas as to what also sounds good.  This sandwich was REALLY good too!  It is packed full of flavor!  My husband was pretty darn proud. :)
Hot Italian Hoagie(my husband also chose the name)

Prep Time:  5-10 minutes
Cook Time: 6-10 minutes
Servings: 2
Difficulty: Easy

Hot Italian Hoagie
Ingredients:
  • 2 Hoagie Rolls
  • Red Onion, thinly sliced(as much or little as you want on your sandwich) I did about 3 whole slices each
  • Red Bell Pepper, thinly sliced(as much or little as you want)
  • splash of Olive Oil sauteing
  • 4 slices of Provolone Cheese, halved
  • 6 slices of Canadian Bacon(thick cut)  we chose this rather then Salami, for less fat
  • 10 slices of Pepperoni(I used Turkey Pepperoni for less fat)
  • Peperoncinis, deli style, sliced
  • 1/2 Tbls Italian Dressing (we used Neumans Own Light Italian Dressing)

Slice your red onion, and red bell pepper.  Sprinkle a tiny bit of olive oil in a pan, add in the onion, and bell pepper.  Saute until soft.
Meanwhile, lay hoagie rolls out on a baking sheet.  Add a slice(two halves) of cheese to each hoagie roll half.

Top with the Canadian bacon, and turkey pepperoni. Only add this to the bottom hoagie rolls.

Broil in oven until cheese is melted.  Watch it carefully, it wont take very long.  3-5 minutes.

Add the sauteed onions and peppers on top of the meat.

Add the pepperoncinis, then drizzle on the Italian dressing.

Put the hoagie halves together, and you have a sandwich, that is tasty!  Just the right amount of meat, and veggies.  If you want more meat, go ahead do it! :)  Enjoy!

Question of the Day:

If you order a sandwich from a deli, do you usually stick to the same kinds?

I always get a sandwich with turkey, how boring is that?!
