Ham and Pickled Asparagus Wraps

It's finally time to share a family favorite appetizer!  Like I said before I am required to bring these wraps to every get together we have, especially Thanksgiving. We have yet to get tired of them, and I am sure we never will.  They are SO good.  Perfect combination.  If you make these, be sure to make plenty because they will go fast!  I have a secret ingredient that I tried a while ago.  I made half of a normal batch, and half with the secret ingredient, and the secret ingredient blew the standard out of the water! It disappeared quickly, and everyone decided it was the new way to go, so I have been making it that way ever since!  I'll show you how to make it, and let you in on the secret ingredient!
Ham and Pickled Asparagus Wraps
Please excuse these dark photos.  We made these wraps at 10pm! Don't let these dark photos skew your perception on how delicious these are!  :)
Prep Time:  Takes two people about 45 minutes to make these
No Cooking Involved
Servings: Makes enough for a medium to large crowd(usually feeds about 12 of us with leftovers)
Difficulty: fairly easy, just takes some time

Ham and Pickled Asparagus Wraps
Ingredients:
  • 1 large pack of thick sliced Ham  I always use this kind(2 pounds worth)
  • 1 (8oz) pkg Cream Cheese, softened
  •  2 LB Jar of Pickled Asparagus (or two little jars will work if you can't find the big jar)
  • Creamy Horseradish to taste(SECRET INGREDIENT!)

SO GOOD! Here goes!
In a small bowl combine softened cream cheese.  The cream cheese needs to be really soft, so I nuked it in the microwave to get it really soft.  It makes it WAY easier to spread.  You want it so soft that it doesn't have any little chunks.  Add in as much horseradish as you would like, to taste.  In our case, we like A LOT, so I used about 1/4-1/3 cup.
We added more than this picture too, don't let it fool you.

Cream it together well.

Place one slice of ham on a flat surface( I used a cutting board) and blot the moisture off with a paper towel. This helps to spread the cream cheese on.

Evenly spread the cream cheese across the ham. By the way if you don't like horseradish, by all means go without!  These are still heavenly without!

Cut the ham down the middle, so you have two half pieces.  Let the liquid drip off each asparagus before you place it on the ham.  Roll the asparagus up in the ham as tightly as you can.

Cut the wrap in half at an angle.

and continue the process until you have made as many as you would like!  Don't forget to eat a few as you go, they are TOO good to pass up, and you have to do quality control!

MMMMMM!!
Enjoy! These are perfect the next day, or even the day after! SO good!

Question of the Day:

What is a favorite appetizer you always take to get togethers?? Or dish??

  2. Try using garlic and onion powder to taste in your cream cheese. ;-)
